Relic of the Bone Fragment (Entire Vertebra) of Saint Chariton the Confessor

With Original Document of Authenticity — May 4, 1849

Size: 8 × 5 cm

An extraordinary and rare first-class relic (ex ossibus) consisting of an entire vertebra of Saint Chariton the Confessor, one of the earliest and most venerated ascetics of the Christian East. The relic is identified by its original Latin label S. Charitonis Conf. and remains intact, bound with red silk threads and secured by two well-preserved red episcopal wax seals.

Accompanying this sacred relic is its original episcopal authentication document, issued on May 4, 1849, by Aloysius Ferrari, Bishop of Modena, bearing his embossed episcopal seal and signature. The document attests to the authenticity and canonical sealing of the relic according to the decrees of the Catholic Church.

Saint Chariton the Confessor († c. 350 AD) was a revered hermit and founder of monastic life in the Judaean Desert. Arrested during the persecutions under Emperor Aurelian, he endured torture and imprisonment for his faith, yet was miraculously delivered and devoted his life to ascetic prayer. He established several monastic communities in Palestine, including the famous Lavra of Chariton, becoming one of the founding fathers of desert monasticism.

This relic offers a direct, physical link to the early centuries of Christian asceticism and the heroic endurance of the confessors who shaped the spiritual foundations of Eastern monasticism.

✨ An exceptionally rare, fully preserved vertebra relic of Saint Chariton the Confessor — authenticated in 1849, a tangible witness to the sanctity of the early desert fathers.
