A Magnificent Sterling Silver Reliquary Housing a Relic of St. Isidore of Seville
Bishop, Confessor & Doctor of the Church
With Original Episcopal Authentication Document (Modena, 1862)
This extraordinary 19th-century reliquary offers a rare opportunity to venerate one of the greatest Fathers of Western Christianity: St. Isidore of Seville (560–636) — Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor of the Church. Enshrined within a beautifully crafted sterling silver theca, sealed with its original episcopal wax and threads, rests a substantial and visually striking ex ossibus relic.
The reliquary is accompanied by its original episcopal authentication document, issued in 1862 by the Bishop of Modena. This impressive certificate, bearing the bishop’s signature and embossed seal, verifies the genuineness of the relic and its proper enshrinement in the silver theca. Such early documents are exceedingly hard to obtain today, making this set especially precious for collectors and devotees alike.
Inside the reliquary, the relic is elegantly framed against gold-toned fabric, surrounded by decorative twisted gilt threads, with the label S. Isidori Ep. Doct. identifying the saint. The relic is notably large and well-preserved, offering a rare devotional presence.
About St. Isidore of Seville (Doctor of the Church)
St. Isidore is revered as one of the last great scholars of the ancient world — a towering intellect whose works shaped medieval Europe. As Archbishop of Seville, he spearheaded the conversion of the Visigoths, preserved classical learning, and authored the monumental Etymologiae, an encyclopedic masterpiece that guided Christian thought for centuries.
He was declared a Doctor of the Church, honored for his theological brilliance, sanctity, and lasting influence on Christian education, monasticism, and liturgy.
Isidore is today venerated as the Patron Saint of scholars, students, computer users, and the Internet, a testament to the timeless reach of his wisdom.
