Gilded Reliquary with Relic of Saint Sampson the Hospitable
Ex Cranio – From the Skull of the Saint
With Vatican-authenticated Document (1950)
A magnificent and rare 20th-century gilded reliquary, finely decorated with red and green glass cabochons surrounding a central crystal compartment. Within rests a substantial and highly precious first-class relic, ex cranio (from the skull) of Saint Sampson the Hospitable, the 6th-century physician, priest, and wonderworker of Constantinople.
The relic is identified on a hand-written authentic label (S. Sampsonis Xen. Med. – “Saint Sampson the Hospitable, Physician”) and is preserved beneath glass in a sunburst gilt frame. The reverse of the reliquary retains its red wax seal and authentication threads, fully intact and untouched, certifying the relic’s authenticity.
Accompanying the reliquary is the original episcopal document of authentication, dated 1950, issued under Cardinal Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster, Archbishop of Milan (beatified 1996), bearing his signature and ecclesiastical seal.
Saint Sampson († c. 530) was a noble physician of Constantinople, renowned for his selfless charity in treating the sick and poor without charge, earning him the title “Hospitable”. He is venerated as a patron saint of physicians and healers, his cult deeply rooted in the Eastern Church.
Dimensions: 20 cm x 8.5 cm
A rare and precious devotional object of great spiritual and historical significance, perfect for serious collectors of sacred relics or ecclesiastical art.
