The reliquary is accompanied by its original Roman ecclesiastical Authentica, dated 9 July 1911, issued under the authority of Cardinal Pietro Respighi (1843–1913), Cardinal-Priest of Santi Quattro Coronati and Vicar General of Rome, one of the highest ecclesiastical offices in the Diocese of Rome.

Created Cardinal by Pope Leo XIII in 1899, Respighi served as Cardinal Vicar of Rome from 1900 until his death in 1913.

Saint Luke the Evangelist

Saint Luke the Evangelist, one of the Four Evangelists, is traditionally recognized as the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles and was a close companion of Saint Paul the Apostle.

Traditionally regarded as a physician, Saint Luke occupies an exceptional place in Christian history. His Gospel preserves some of the most beloved accounts of the life of Christ, including the Annunciation, the Visitation and the Nativity, as well as the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son.

Ancient Christian tradition also venerates Saint Luke as the first iconographer of the Virgin Mary. His traditional symbol is the winged ox.

The Reliquary

This important relic is preserved in an elegant solid sterling silver oval theca, containing a substantial sacred fragment identified as belonging to Saint Luke the Evangelist, mounted beneath glass and accompanied by its original identification label.

The original threads and ecclesiastical seals remain intact, and the relic is accompanied by its original Authentica, preserving the integrity of this exceptional documented ensemble.
