Saint Andrew the Apostle

Saint Andrew the Apostle, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ and brother of Saint Peter, is honored in Christian tradition as the First-Called Apostle, having been among the first disciples summoned to follow Christ.

According to the Gospel of John, Andrew had previously been a disciple of Saint John the Baptist and, after encountering Christ, brought his brother Simon Peter to Him.

Ancient Christian tradition associates his missionary preaching with Greece and the regions surrounding the Black Sea. He is traditionally believed to have suffered martyrdom at Patras in Greece by crucifixion and later became especially associated with the X-shaped cross that bears his name.

Saint Andrew is one of the most widely venerated Apostles in both the Eastern and Western Churches.
