The reliquary is accompanied by its original Roman ecclesiastical authentication document issued on 20 December 1881 under the authority of Cardinal Lucido Maria Parocchi, one of the most influential princes of the Church during the pontificate of Pope Leo XIII.

Saint Peter the Apostle

Saint Peter occupies a unique place in Christian history and devotion. Born Simon in Bethsaida and working as a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee, he was personally called by Christ to become one of His first disciples.

The Gospels consistently present Peter as the foremost among the Apostles. It was Peter who confessed Jesus as the Christ, and it was to Peter that Christ addressed the immortal words:

"You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church."

For nearly two millennia these words have been understood as the foundation of the Apostolic ministry entrusted to Peter and his successors.
