Exceptional Composite Reliquary of the Holy Places of Christianity

With Cardinal’s Authentication Document, 1896

The Relics Contained:

  • Ex S. Praesepio Domini Nostri Jesu Christi
From the Holy Manger of Our Lord Jesus Christ (Bethlehem)
A relic associated with the sacred place of the Nativity. Such relics traditionally consist of contact fragments, having touched the wood or sacred enclosure of the Holy Manger, revered since the earliest centuries of Christianity.
  • Ex Columna Flagellationis
From the Column of the Flagellation
This relic is linked to the column to which Christ was bound during His scourging. The Column of the Flagellation has been venerated in Jerusalem since antiquity, and fragments or contact relics were distributed under strict ecclesiastical supervision.
  • Ex SS. Sepulcro Domini Nostri Jesu Christi
From the Holy Sepulchre of Our Lord Jesus Christ
A relic associated with the Tomb of Christ in Jerusalem—traditionally fragments of stone, dust, or contact relics from the Edicule (Aedicula) enclosing the Sepulchre, the very place of the Resurrection.
  • Ex S. Monte Calvario
From the Holy Mount of Calvary (Golgotha)
This relic derives from the site of the Crucifixion, traditionally consisting of stone or earth from Golgotha, the place sanctified by the Blood of Christ.
  • Ex B. M. V. Sepulcro Virginis
From the Tomb of the Blessed Virgin Mary
A relic associated with the burial place of the Mother of God in Gethsemane, revered in both Eastern and Western Christian tradition as the site of her Dormition.

This extraordinarily rare theca-reliquary contains authenticated sacred fragments associated with the most venerated sites of Christian salvation history, uniting in a single devotional object the principal loci of the Incarnation, Passion, Death, Resurrection of Christ, and the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Housed within a finely crafted oval metal reliquary (theca), measuring 4 × 3.5 cm, the relics are carefully arranged in a cruciform composition upon red silk and identified by original handwritten Latin labels. The reliquary retains its original integrity and devotional character.

The ensemble is accompanied by an official episcopal document issued in 1896, bearing ecclesiastical seals and confirming the authenticity and licit veneration of the relics.

Historical and Spiritual Significance

This reliquary represents an exceptionally rare devotional synthesis, uniting in a single object the sacred geography of Christianity itself. Such composite reliquaries were typically reserved for high ecclesiastical use, pilgrimage relic collections, or private chapels of bishops and nobility.

The Cardinal’s document of 1896 confirms the relics’ canonical authenticity and explicitly forbids their sale or profane use, underscoring their sacred character and intended purpose for veneration alone.
