This official Latin certificate confirms the ordination of Franciscus Xaverius Bourguignon within the Catholic Church hierarchy. The document was issued by the Diocese of Metz and bears the printed episcopal heading:
“Jacobus-Franciscus Besson, Miseratione Divina et Sanctae Sedis Apostolicae gratia Episcopus Metensis.”
Such documents were given to clergy as proof of their canonical promotion and ecclesiastical authority.
Jacobus-Franciscus Besson served as Bishop of Metz from 1824 to 1842. Documents issued under his authority represent important records of Catholic administration in eastern France during the early 19th century.
Good antique condition. Visible fold lines, age toning, and water staining at the lower section of the document. The embossed seal remains visible.
