The document confirms the appointment of Franciscus Xaverius Bourguignon as Chaplain of the College of Metz, written in Latin in elegant ecclesiastical chancery script.
The heading bears the name and heraldic coat of arms of the bishop:
“Paulus-Georgius-Maria Dupont des Loges, Miseratione Divina et Sanctae Sedis Apostolicae gratia Episcopus Metensis.”
Issued at Metz (Metis) and dated 6 April 1847.
Paul-Georges-Marie Dupont des Loges (1804–1886) served as Bishop of Metz from 1843 to 1886 and became a significant Catholic and political figure during the turbulent period surrounding the Franco-Prussian War and the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine.
