Wood gilded reliquary w relics of St. Mammes of Caesarea, Martyrs + St. Hermolai of Nicomedia, Martyr + document C. O. A.
Saint Mammes of Caesarea (Mamas, Mammas, Mammet, Mema; Greek: Μάμας) was a c martyr of the 3rd century, who was martyred at Caesarea. His parents, Theodotus and Rufina, were also martyred.
Hermolai of Nicomedia (executed in 305) is an early Christian martyr who suffered with Hermippos and Hermocrates in Nicomedia. Revered by the Orthodox (July 26 (August 8)) and Catholic Churches (July 27).
We know about Saint Hermolai from the life of Saint Panteleimon. According to the life, Ermolai was a presbyter, and Ermippus and Ermocrates were clerics (in a later version, also presbyters) in Nicomedia. During the persecution of 305, they took refuge in a private house, but even there they continued to preach to the pagans. Among the converts was the future Great Martyr Panteleimon. The latter was arrested, professed himself a Christian and, not wanting to lie, revealed the name of his mentor Ermolai and the place where he was hiding. Hermolai, Hermippus and Hermocrates were also arrested, declared themselves Christians and were then beheaded.
