A very interesting and rare Relic - from the Phalanx of the Finger.
Ex Internodium Digiti - from the phalanx of the finger.
Reliquary size: 3.5 cm X 1.8 cm.
Authentic relic. All seals and threads are intact. Bishop official document.
-Leo was the first pope to be buried in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. In 688, his remains were reburied by Pope Sergius, then in 1607 they were moved to the rebuilt St. Peter's Basilica, and finally in 1715 they took their current place in the same cathedral under the altar dedicated to him.
-Leo I became the first bishop of Rome to take the title of Pontiff Maximus (Pontifex Maximus).
-Since ancient times, February 18 has been venerated in the Orthodox Church. In 1754, Pope Benedict XIV awarded Leo I the title of Doctor of the Church (doctor ecclesiae).
-During the pontificate of Leo I, his office was given the title "Pope".
-The first pope to receive the title "great".
-In the Roman Rite, fragments of his texts are still read at Christmas.
-Since his reign, a total of 13 popes have borne the name Pope Leo. The most recent is the current Pope Leo XIV.
