Reliquary with the Sacred Relics of St. Romanos the Melodist, with Episcopal Authentication, 1882

A precious devotional relic containing a fragment ex ossibus of St. Romanos the Melodist (Sanctus Romanus Melodus), one of the most celebrated hymnographers of the Christian East, revered as the “Sweet-Singer of the Church.”

The relic is enshrined in an oval silvered reliquary theca, measuring 4.5 × 3 cm, decorated with gold thread on a rose-colored ground. It is secured beneath its original glass cover with the identification label: S. Romani Melodi. The reverse is sealed with the red wax episcopal seal, fully intact.

Accompanied by its original episcopal authentication document, issued in 1882 by Philippus Fratellini, Bishop of Viterbo and Tuscania, confirming the authenticity of the relics.

This reliquary unites both profound liturgical heritage and impeccable ecclesiastical provenance, offering collectors and the faithful alike a rare opportunity to venerate one of the greatest hymnographers of the Byzantine tradition.
