Relic of the Bone Fragment (Rib) of Saint Tabitha of Joppa (or Saint Dorcas)

With Original Document of Authenticity — May 4, 1849

Size: 7.5 cm

A remarkable and historically important first-class relic (ex ossibus) consisting of a rib bone fragment of Saint Tabitha (Dorcas) of Joppa, one of the earliest Christian women mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 9:36–42). The relic is identified by its original Latin label S. Tabithae Jop. and is secured with red silk threads and sealed with two intact episcopal red wax seals — perfectly preserved since the mid-19th century.

This sacred relic is accompanied by its original episcopal authentication document, issued on May 4, 1849, by Aloysius Ferrari, Bishop of Modena, bearing his embossed episcopal seal and handwritten signature. The certificate confirms the authenticity and canonical sealing of the relic according to Church regulations.

Saint Tabitha of Joppa, also known as Dorcas in Greek, was a pious disciple of Christ renowned for her charity and good works. She is described in Scripture as a benefactress of the poor and a woman “full of good works and almsdeeds.” After her death, she was miraculously raised to life by the Apostle Peter, becoming one of the earliest witnesses to the power of the Resurrection. She is venerated as the patron saint of widows, seamstresses, and charitable works.

This authenticated relic represents a rare and deeply moving link to the apostolic era — a tangible testimony to the faith and sanctity of the earliest followers of Christ.

✨ A rare, authenticated relic from 1849 of Saint Tabitha of Joppa — the charitable disciple resurrected by Saint Peter.
