Rare 19th-Century Reliquary with Significant Relics of Saints Peter and Paul (Ex Ossibus) + Episcopal Document (1882)
A truly exceptional devotional artifact: a rare 19th-century oval reliquary containing large and clearly visible ex ossibus (from the bones) relics of the Holy Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the two foremost pillars of the early Church.
Relics: Ex ossibus (bone fragments) of “S. Petri Apost.” and “S. Pauli Apost.”
Reliquary: Ornate, oval-shaped theca with intact glass, surrounded by a gilded bronze frame with baroque-style detailing; original red silk background and meticulously handwritten identification labels.
Seals & Authenticity: The relics are secured with the original episcopal wax seal, red threads, and an ecclesiastical metal closure system.
Document: Accompanied by the original hand-signed ecclesiastical certificate, issued by Victor Augustus Isidore Cardinal Deschamps, Archbishop of Mechelen and Primate of Belgium, dated 23 September 1882.
Dimensions: 7 × 7 cm (external, including frame); approx. 2 cm thickness.
This precious reliquary stands as both a sacred devotional object and a historical treasure. Relics of both Apostles Peter and Paul in one piece are exceedingly rare — especially with such notably large fragments and original episcopal documentation.
