Saint Francis of Assisi (1181/82–1226)
Saint Francis is one of the most influential figures in Christian history. Founder of the Franciscan Order, he embraced a life of radical poverty, humility, and love for all creation. His spirituality emphasized peace, simplicity, and joyful devotion to Christ.
Francis is also remembered as the first recorded recipient of the stigmata, the wounds of Christ, which he bore near the end of his life. Canonized only two years after his death, he remains a universal symbol of compassion, humility, and harmony between humanity and God’s creation.
Saint Anthony of Padua (1195–1231)
Saint Anthony, a Franciscan friar and renowned preacher, was celebrated for his profound knowledge of Scripture and his ability to explain complex theology with clarity and warmth. He is especially venerated as a Doctor of the Church and as the patron saint of lost things, the poor, and travelers.
Despite his short life, his preaching and writings left a lasting impact on Catholic theology and devotion. He was canonized less than a year after his death, one of the fastest canonizations in Church history.
The Ecclesiastical Authority
The accompanying authentication document was issued by Philippus Fratellini, Bishop of Forosemprone (Fossombrone), in 1882.
Bishop Fratellini was responsible for the canonical recognition and safeguarding of sacred relics within his diocese. His signed and sealed document attests that the relics were properly examined, identified, and approved for public veneration according to the discipline of the Church.
Summary
This reliquary represents a rare and meaningful union of two great Franciscan saints, preserved with full ecclesiastical authority and deep spiritual heritage.
